Ipswich Town are nearing the completion of a loan deal for former Premier League defender Ben Godfrey, with Kieran McKenna eager to bolster his squad during the January transfer window.

Currently sitting in 18th place in the Premier League, McKenna is determined to strengthen his side’s chances of staying in the top flight. Ipswich’s recent 2-0 victory at home over Chelsea, which included a penalty from Liam Delap and a goal from Omari Hutchinson, added to their optimism.

Ipswich’s next match is an away game against Fulham this Sunday, followed by a home fixture against Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup third round on January 12.

Ben Godfrey, who has played only five times for Atalanta, is set to move to Ipswich on loan after finalizing terms with manager Kieran McKenna. The experienced centre-back will bring valuable top-flight experience to the team.

Previously, Godfrey played in the Premier League with Norwich City and Everton. During his time with Everton, he made 93 appearances and also earned two caps for the England national team in 2021, facing Austria and Romania.
