On Tuesday, the Kansas City Chiefs held their 17th practice of the 2024 training camp at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph. The team returned to full-pad drills after a lighter, unpadded 10-10-10 session on Monday.
Among the notable events, offensive tackle Wanya Morris, who had been sidelined on Monday due to a bone bruise on his knee, rejoined the team in full gear, ready to participate in the day’s activities.
While Morris was back in action, other players were less fortunate. Defensive tackle Chris Jones and wide receiver Jaaron Jayek, both dealing with shoulder injuries, were present at the practice but did not participate.
Similarly, wide receiver Hollywood Brown and undrafted rookie offensive lineman McKade Mettauer, suffering from a shoulder injury and an MCL issue respectively, were absent once again.
The team was also missing safety Bryan Cook, who was out for personal reasons, and running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, who missed practice due to illness.
The injury list continues to impact the Chiefs’ roster, with only a few players remaining on the sidelines. Defensive end Charles Omenihu, who is on the Active/PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list due to an ACL injury, was present but did not wear a helmet during practice. Meanwhile, defensive end BJ Thompson, who is on the Active/NFI (Non-Football Injury) list, was absent from the session due to illness.
The return of Morris is a positive sign for the Chiefs as they continue their preparations for the upcoming season. However, the absence of key players, particularly on the defensive line and wide receiver positions, highlights the ongoing challenges the team faces in maintaining a healthy roster as they progress through training camp.
The coaching staff will need to carefully manage these injuries to ensure that the team is fully prepared for the regular season. As the Chiefs move forward with their training camp, the health and readiness of their players will be a critical factor in their success.
