Chelsea have been presented with a potential transfer deal involving Napoli striker Victor Osimhen as part of a swap for their own forward, Romelu Lukaku.
Chelsea’s interest in Osimhen, the Nigerian international who played a key role in Napoli’s 2022/23 Serie A title win with 26 goals, is well-known.
The Times reports that Napoli’s sporting director, Giovanni Manna, has engaged in talks with Chelsea officials in London, focusing on securing a deal that would see Osimhen move to the Premier League.
Despite a strong season, Osimhen has submitted a transfer request, fueling speculation about his move to Chelsea. Napoliโs manager, Antonio Conte, has identified Lukaku as a prime target, and the two clubs appear close to an agreement.
Napoli values Osimhen at approximately ยฃ90 million and has proposed a deal that includes ยฃ25 million in cash, bringing the total valuation to ยฃ115 million. However, Chelsea values Lukaku at nearly ยฃ40 million, meaning there are still financial details to resolve before finalizing the transaction.
Lukaku’s substantial weekly wage of ยฃ325,000 is a significant consideration, but Chelsea is reportedly ready to offer Osimhen a similar salary, recognizing that the Nigerian striker is unwilling to accept a pay cut to facilitate a move.
In efforts to persuade Osimhen, Chelsea legends John Obi Mikel and Didier Drogba have been in contact with him, emphasizing his potential impact at the club. Mikel has likened Osimhen’s goal-scoring prowess to that of Erling Haaland, suggesting that his arrival would be a major boost for Chelsea.
Amid these negotiations, Chelsea is also pursuing a deal for Joao Felix, who was previously on loan at the club from Atletico Madrid. The pursuit comes after a potential move for striker Samu Omorodion fell through due to contractual issues.
With the departure of Lukaku and the addition of Osimhen, Chelsea aims to enhance their attacking options under the guidance of manager Enzo Maresca, making Osimhen their top target for the summer transfer window.
If successful, this acquisition would mark a significant addition to the club’s offensive capabilities, reflecting their ambitions for the upcoming season.
