Arsenal are reportedly exploring the possibility of a last-minute signing to strengthen their squad, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Gunners have been less active in this transfer window than anticipated. So far, they’ve added only Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna and made David Raya’s loan move permanent. Tommy Setford has also joined from Ajax Amsterdam, but the 18-year-old is expected to play primarily for the academy this season. Additionally, Arsenal are close to finalizing a deal for Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad.
Romano, speaking on GiveMeSport, has indicated that Arsenal are considering last-minute opportunities in the market to bolster their squad, although they are not planning to pursue any high-profile names. Instead, they are looking at potential backup options to enhance their team, but nothing is imminent at this stage.
Arsenal looking to seal ‘last-minute’ deal
He said:
“In terms of opportunities, I would keep, in Arsenal’s case, the door open. Still nothing imminent, still nothing closer, but Arsenal are considering opportunities on the market, so I would keep the door open for a last-minute chance.
“I don’t think it’s going to be something very big, I see rumours on players like Nico Williams. I don’t think Arsenal will do something like that, I think if they decide to do something, it’s going to be something for a back-up and opportunity in the final days.”
Reports indicate that Arsenal may seek a new goalkeeper if Aaron Ramsdale departs the club. Ramsdale’s position is uncertain following a season where he had limited playing time.
Espanyol’s Joan Garcia is being considered as a possible replacement for Ramsdale, with personal terms reportedly already agreed upon between the player and Arsenal.
Additionally, Arsenal is rumored to be targeting a new winger before the transfer deadline, with Ademola Lookman being a key target. The club’s final moves between now and the season’s end remain to be seen.
