The US sprinter, despite winning the 100m race in Poland on Sunday, was unimpressed with his performance, finishing ahead of Kenyaโs Ferdinand Omanyala and Jamaicaโs Ackeem Blake.
American sprinter Fred Kerley has ruffled feathers by claiming the 100m race, which he won at the Silesia Diamond League on Sunday, was a โtrash race.โ
Kerley clocked 9.87 to win ahead of Kenyaโs Ferdinand Omanyala, who finished second in 9.88, and Ackeem Blake of Jamaica, whose personal best of 9.89 yielded third place, while Italian former Olympics champion Marcell Jacobs, clocked 9.93 for fourth place.
The Olympics bronze medallist, however, seemed not impressed by his performance and gave negative reactions post-race.
โTrash race but on to Rome,โ Kerley started by posting on X before revealing much more in a post-race interview.
“I know the race was shi**y as hell. I just ran and not being technically sound, but I know I’m about to get an earful once I get to my phone,โ he said.
The race attracted some of the worldโs top sprinters although Olympic silver medallist Kishane Thompson, who was initially set to feature did not start for some unclear reasons.
The field was therefore left open for the rest with Omanyala pushing Kerley to the very end as he continues his impressive post-Olympics form.
Kerley also gained an advantage over Jacobs, improving his record against the Italian to 3-1. This victory will serve as a confidence boost for him ahead of his next race in Rome, where Jacobs will be the home crowd favorite.
