The New York Mets secured a 4-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday, improving their record to 78-64. Jose Quintana’s 6.2 shutout innings earned him his 100th career win.

Manager Carlos Mendoza praised Quintana, emphasizing his career longevity and resilience. “100 wins today. Proud of him. Congrats, shout-out to him,” Mendoza said via SNY. He also highlighted the key defensive plays by Francisco Lindor and Jose Iglesias: “Watching (Jose) Iglesias going to his left, diving for it and then Lindor having that ability to turn it.

And then Lindor, that bullet in the six hole, and you know we turn a 6-4-3 double play with ease. I thought that was you know, after that Quintana basically just took over.”

The Mets secured the win with a strong performance in the 6th inning, including Harrison Bader’s homer, Pete Alonso’s RBI single, and JD Martinez’s two-run double. Quintana pitched into the seventh inning.

Following their win and the Atlanta Braves’ 9-5 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays, the Mets now hold the final Wild Card playoff spot in the National League.

They lead the Braves by one game, are half a game behind the Arizona Diamondbacks, and 2.5 games behind the San Diego Padres for the top Wild Card spot.

The Mets will finish their series against the Reds at Citi Field on Sunday before heading on the road for three games against the Toronto Blue Jays. They are scheduled to face the Braves in a crucial three-game series from Sept. 24-26, which could significantly impact playoff standings.
