The Kansas City Chiefs experienced a mixed week. After a thrilling victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, they received troubling news regarding starting running back Isiah Pacheco, who has been placed on injured reserve.
In response, the Chiefs signed Kareem Hunt, who returns to the team after spending the last five seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Hunt previously played for the Chiefs in 2017 and 2018, rushing for 1,327 yards in his rookie season and earning Pro Bowl honors and the PFWA Offensive Rookie of the Year award.
On Wednesday, fans were thrilled to see Hunt practicing again in a Chiefs uniform. He was notably seen catching punts, which could signal an interesting role for him.
“Here’s what we saw from RB Kareem Hunt in our brief media look. It’s his first practice with the #Chiefs in 5.5 years,” tweeted Pete Sweeney.
Fans were clearly excited about Hunt’s return.
“We are so back,” AJ King commented. “Never thought I’d see the day,” added @rueby_V.
“He looks fast and in shape! @Kareemhunt7 So happy you’re back! Long overdue!” Shane Stevens tweeted.
Chiefs running backs coach Todd Pinkston shared positive insights about Hunt, stating, “He has it. He still has it. We’ve just got to get him up to speed. A lot of the stuff he’s doing now, it’s coming back to him.” These remarks further fueled fan excitement.
“Don’t overreact don’t overreact don’t… OMG HE’S BACK!!” exclaimed one fan.
Another fan noted, “You can watch his clips from last year, while he was injured. He’s still got it. Light workload the last several years,” referencing Hunt’s performance.
Hunt tallied 411 yards and nine touchdowns on 135 carries last season with the Browns and now looks to potentially fill the RB1 role for the Chiefs until Pacheco’s return.
