‘Here, they do makeup’ – Jasmine Camacho-Quinn shares how athletes are getting pampered at Athlos

Puerto Rico sprinter Jasmine Camacho-Quinn has highlighted the unique experiences athletes enjoy at the women’s-only Athlos event, contrasting it with other global track meets.

The bronze medalist in the Olympics 100m hurdles noted the distinct atmosphere at Athlos, scheduled in New York on Thursday, where some of the top athletes gather. She emphasized, “The vibe is completely different, we are just women and the prize money is a lot bigger than what we get at other meets,” in an interview with CITIUS MAG.

Camacho-Quinn described the fun activities, saying, “We went and did photo shoots, video stuff and all of us were just being girls because we never have this opportunity so it is good for us we are able to get in work mode and still enjoy it.” She also mentioned, “This is a lot bigger than what we’re used to, we just do press conferences when we go overseas and that it.”

She added, “Here, they do makeup. I’m trying to get adjusted to a full face of makeup right now! Everything here is just so fun.” Despite the excitement, she noted that the athletes maintained focus, stating, “We knew this meet was coming up so we had to kind of stay in work mode anyway so it was not like it is the last month of the season and we are tired.”

The meet will feature the 100m hurdles, where Camacho-Quinn will compete against strong rivals, including Olympic champion Masai Russell, who beat her for gold in Paris 2024. Other competitors include Jamaica’s Danielle Williams and Americans Alaysha Johnson and Tonea Marshall, along with Bahrain’s Charisma Taylor.

The Athlos event, founded by Reddit’s Alexis Ohanian, will also include races in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, and 1500m categories.
