Inter Milan Treble Hero Expects Club to Recover from Derby Loss: “Lautaro Will Bounce Back, Still in Contact with Mourinho”
Legendary Inter Milan fullback Maicon believes his former club will recover from their recent Derby della Madonnina defeat and anticipates that Lautaro Martinez will soon regain his form.
The Nerazzurri entered the match as heavy favorites, having won the last six encounters, while AC Milan was struggling. However, Paulo Fonseca’s team secured a 2-1 victory against Simone Inzaghi’s side.
Maicon reassured fans that defeats are part of football and expressed confidence in the team’s resilience. “I’ve experienced many Derby contests. I know it’s very important for the city,” he remarked during a Milano event (via FcInterNews). “I think it’s just a bad moment, but we’re still close to Inter. They’ve changed a few players, but the core is still there. It’s the same defense that produced the goods last year. The team can still achieve great things.”
He also expressed optimism about club captain Lautaro Martinez. “Lautaro has given a lot to Inter and Argentina and will continue to do so. He’s enduring a tough period, but he’ll find a way to come back strong.”
Regarding his legacy, Maicon stated, “The new Maicon? He doesn’t exist. What I have achieved is still in the archives. Other players in my role are doing very well, like Dumfries. But Maicon is Maicon, and the others are the others.”
Lastly, Maicon confirmed he stays connected with his fellow treble winners. “Yes, we have a WhatsApp group. Mourinho is also in it. His adventure in Turkiye didn’t start well, but he will do great because he is a top coach.”
