Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce keeps fans guessing after vague response concerning her future in the sport

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has left her fans in suspense regarding her future in athletics after she withdrew from the Paris Olympic Games.

The multiple world champion had previously hinted that these Games might be her last, but her exit from the women’s 100m race has left many heartbroken. Although she won her heat, she did not compete in the semifinal.

Fraser-Pryce was only set to compete in the women’s 100m, missing out on the 200m and the women’s 4x100m. When asked about her future in athletics, she declined to comment, stating, “I cannot answer that question currently.”

Following her withdrawal, she expressed her disappointment in a heartfelt message but did not clarify the reasons for her exit. “It is difficult for me to find the words to describe the depth of my disappointment. I know that my supporters share and shoulder this disappointment with me. I am truly blessed to have had the steadfast support of my fans since my Olympic debut in 2008,” she said.

She continued, “The support of my fans, my country, and the larger community has rooted me in immense gratitude that has sustained me throughout my career. With every step and win, you all have been there for me. My faith has always affirmed my trust in my journey. Thank you for continuing to be with me today and every day.”

Fraser-Pryce boasts an impressive record, including 10 world championship titles and three Olympic titles, along with four Olympic silver medals and five Diamond League Meeting final titles. Since her exit from the Olympics, the 37-year-old has not participated in any competitions.

Off the track, she has been active with her Pocket Rocket Foundation, recently presenting 20 scholarships to high school student-athletes at an event in Kingston. The students are involved in various sports, and her foundation has awarded nearly 100 scholarships since its establishment 11 years ago.
