Gabby Thomas has expressed her enthusiasm for the success of the women-only track event, Athlos, and is eager for future editions.
The triple Olympic champion shared insights on the impact of Alexis Ohanianโs Athlos event. She felt immense pride as a member of the organizing committee, witnessing fellow athletes compete and represent their countries in New York City.
Despite a long season, Thomas was pleased to see athletes fully committed to the races, contributing to the event’s success. She emphasized that hosting such events demonstrates to the world that anything is achievable, with plans to return even stronger.
โItโs really an incredible feeling,โ Gabby Thomas said. โIt has been a long time coming, and itโs pretty incredible to see this coming into fruition. This is just a great celebration of all the hard work you put in this season.โ
She added, โIt shows what is possible, it shows what we can do, shows how fun it can be to show up and support track meets. Women just show up to the line and then compete. This is something that we can do next year and the year after that.โ
In the womenโs 200m, Thomas secured a second-place finish, closely trailing Olympic bronze medallist Brittany Brown, who had just finished second in the womenโs 100m behind Marie-Josee Ta Lou-Smith.
The event boasts a significant prize pool of $110,500, with winners receiving $60,000. Second-place finishers earned $25,000, while third, fourth, fifth, and sixth place received $10,000, $8,000, $5,000, and $2,500, respectively.
