The New York Yankees have not claimed a World Series title since 2009, creating significant pressure for the organization as they head into 2024. Among all in New York, manager Aaron Boone faces the greatest scrutiny, especially with ongoing rumors about his future with the team.
Boone took over as manager before the 2017 season, following Joe Girardi, who failed to secure a World Series win. The closest the Yankees have come to that goal since then was in 2017, when they lost Game 7 of the ALCS.
Aaron Boone’s managerial record (Baseball Reference): 603-429 in the regular season, 14-17 in MLB playoffs as New York Yankees skipper.
The pressure on Boone has intensified with the Wild Card round results. With the Houston Astros and Baltimore Oriolesโconsidered the Yankees’ main threatsโeliminated, the Yankees will now face the Kansas City Royals.
On Bleacher Report, it was noted that the matchup against the Royals adds further pressure from fans for the team to progress to the American League Championship Series. Within the organization, Boone enjoys significant support.
โAaron Boone, I think is a solid manager, heโs not won (with the Yankees). The Yankees say they want to win the World Series, or at least get to the World Series. Hasnโt done that yet, a lot of pressure on Aaron Boone to get thereโฆHis bosses love him. Cashman and Steinbrenner love him, so thatโs always a plus in his corner.โ

Despite Boone’s backing from the front office and ownership, this support may not suffice depending on the Yankees’ playoff performance. Itโs generally believed that New York needs to reach the ALCS for Boone to retain his position in 2025.
However, if they fall short in the ALCS, it would mark a 15-year drought without a World Series appearance for the Yankees. The situation could worsen, as New York has only won two of their last ten ALCS games since 2019.
