Patrick Mosin and Miriam Chebet emerged as the winners of the Cardiff Half Marathon on Sunday, with Kenyans dominating the top three spots in both the men’s and women’s categories.
In the women’s race, Chebet finished first with a time of 1:06:42, achieving a new personal best and surpassing her previous record of 1:07:14. She was closely followed by Grace Nawowuna (1:07:15) and Caroline Nyaga (1:07:16), both from Kenya, who secured second and third places respectively.
Mosin won the menโs category with a time of 1:00:01, just 31 seconds shy of Leonard Langat’s record of 59:30 set in 2019.
Over 29,000 runners participated, marking this year’s event as the “biggest year ever,” according to Matt Newman, chief executive of Run4Wales. “This is our biggest year ever with over 29,000 people registered to take part across the weekend,” he stated.
Mosin, who finished with a time of 59:31, was a strong contender coming off a win at the 2023 Lille Half Marathon and a third-place finish at the Prague Half Marathon, where the current World Half Marathon Champion, Sebastian Sawe, triumphed.
In the women’s race, two-time European Cross Country Champion Fionnuala McCormack made her Cardiff debut with a time of 69:32, while Nelly Jepchumba (67:00), the fastest entrant, had previously won the Rio De Janeiro Half Marathon in August. Despite the competition, Chebet executed a tactical race to secure her victory, boosting her confidence for upcoming events.
