Fans of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia will recognize Frank Reynolds, and even if they don’t, they’re sure to know Danny DeVito.
Recently, Mundial, a popular football magazine on Instagram, spotlighted a fun piece featuring Reynolds in Paddy’s Pub—the fictional bar his character owns—sporting the classic 1995-1997 Celtic home jersey.
This artwork is the creation of an artist known as Zooligan on social media, who frequently reimagines famous TV personalities and celebrities in vintage football kits. Among their other works are characters like Larry David from Curb Your Enthusiasm in a late ’90s Parma jersey, David Brent and Alan Partridge in old-school England tracksuits, and Chris Moltisanti from The Sopranos donning a Napoli shirt, likely relaxing in Satriale’s.
Though DeVito’s character doesn’t mention being a Celtic fan on the show, he does run an Irish pub. As a character, he’s vastly different from DeVito himself, fitting into a cast of mostly unlikable personalities who, nonetheless, get into hilariously absurd situations. Frank’s on-screen buddies—Mac (Rob McElhenney), Charlie (Charlie Day), Dennis (Glenn Howerton), and Dee (Kaitlin Olson)—join him in countless comedic escapades.
Since debuting in 2005 on FX, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has become the longest-running American live-action sitcom, with 16 seasons aired so far. Even if you haven’t seen the show, you might recognize McElhenney as one of the owners of Wrexham, alongside Hollywood’s Ryan Reynolds.
Is it a slow news day? Absolutely—it’s the lull of another international break. But hopefully, this quirky story brings a smile to your face.
