Crystal Palace’s struggles in front of goal have led them to Chelsea, where they are eyeing a player with significant potential.
Manager Oliver Glasner is likely frustrated by how the season has unfolded thus far. Palace has managed to score just eight goals, placing them as the second-lowest scorers in the league, only ahead of Southampton. This poor scoring record has pushed the Eagles down to 18th, putting them at serious risk of relegation. Any momentum gained from victories over Tottenham and Aston Villa has seemingly vanished.
This situation has prompted Dougie Freedman, the club’s sporting director, to “definitely” pursue a forward in the summer.
Now, the Eagles have been linked with a possible loan move from Chelsea.
Crystal Palace Reportedly Interested in Mykhailo Mudryk
Amidst their scoring woes, Palace’s consideration of Chelsea’s Mykhailo Mudryk as a solution may seem questionable. Mudryk has netted only five goals in 53 Premier League appearances, falling short of being a reliable scorer.
Despite this, Football Transfers has connected Mudryk with a potential move to Selhurst Park. Reports suggest that Palace has approached Chelsea to explore the possibility of a January loan for the out-of-favor Ukrainian forward.
In theory, this move could benefit both parties if Glasner manages to tap into Mudryk’s potential, while Palace chairman Steve Parish sees the £88.5 million Mudryk as having the potential impact of a player like Wilfried Zaha.
Currently earning £100,000 per week, Mudryk might be a viable option for Palace. However, there’s one major obstacle.
Mudryk Loan to Palace Nearly Impossible
While a loan for Mudryk could be a smart play with potential for a future permanent deal, it’s nearly impossible due to Premier League loan regulations.
The league’s rulebook, specifically section V.7.5, states: “The maximum number of loans registrable in the same season is four, and, under no circumstances, shall more than one be from the same club at any one time.”
Since Trevoh Chalobah is already on loan at Palace, acquiring Mudryk on loan would violate this rule unless Chalobah is purchased outright or Mudryk is permanently transferred. This rumor, therefore, is unlikely to materialize.
