Yankees Could Replace Gleyber Torres with Brandon Lowe in Potential Trade
The Gleyber Torres era with the New York Yankees has come to an end. The infielder recently agreed to a one-year, $15 million contract with the Detroit Tigers, marking a new chapter for both him and the Yankees.
While Torres had expressed a desire to finish his career in New York, the Yankees didn’t appear interested in bringing him back. According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the deal with Detroit suggests that a reunion wasn’t on the cards. However, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman might look to bolster the team by pursuing Tampa Bay Rays second baseman Brandon Lowe as Torres’ replacement.
A potential trade scenario proposed by Sporting News suggests the Yankees could land Lowe by offering right-handed pitcher Ben Hess and infielder Jorbit Vivas. Both players are considered top prospects, with Hess ranked 8th and Vivas 17th in the Yankees’ system according to MLB.com.
Lowe, 29, has been a key contributor for the Rays, posting three seasons with over 20 home runs. Despite missing significant time in recent years, his career .794 OPS over 1,742 plate appearances would add much-needed depth to the Yankees’ lineup. With the Rays having exercised Lowe’s $10.5 million option for 2025, this trade would also help keep the Yankees’ payroll in check.
This move could solidify the Yankees’ infield without breaking the bank, offering them a reliable power hitter in Lowe for the coming seasons.
