Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke is reportedly not inclined to approve a high-cost transfer for Alexander Isak this summer, despite ongoing interest from the club.
According to Craig Hope’s report in the Daily Mail, Arsenal have long admired Isak, but sources close to the club say Kroenke is highly unlikely to greenlight a deal for the player. While the Gunners are not currently facing any Profit and Sustainability Rule concerns, Hope mentions that bringing in Isak would necessitate a significant outgoing transfer, likely to raise PSR issues.
Newcastle United has been linked with a £150m asking price for Isak, though this figure is reportedly just an estimate, with no official price tag set. The striker, under contract with Newcastle until 2028, has contributed 17 Premier League goal involvements in just 18 appearances.
Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager, is said to be a major admirer of Isak, and it is understood that the player’s camp is aware of Arsenal’s interest. However, it is expected that the transfer would cost more than the £115m Chelsea paid for Moisés Caicedo, the current British record.
Newcastle, who have delayed contract talks with Isak, are expected to revisit negotiations depending on their final Premier League position and European football prospects for the next season.
