The Dallas Mavericks are exploring various trade options this season as they navigate through injuries. While they’ve reportedly been seeking frontcourt help and a two-way wing to strengthen their perimeter defense, a new player type has now been linked to the team.
According to Brett Siegel of Clutch Points, the Mavericks are connected to Utah Jazz guard Jordan Clarkson, the 2021 Sixth Man of the Year.
“One interesting name that has come up in conversations about the Mavs is Utah Jazz veteran guard Jordan Clarkson,” Siegel stated. “The Jazz are open to dealing the former Sixth Man of the Year for future value, whether that be in the form of draft compensation or young talents with potential.”
Clarkson, who is earning just over $14 million this season, would require the Mavericks to likely send out Maxi Kleber and Dante Exum to make the salaries match. If Dallas can secure the trade without parting with a first-round pick or young players like Jaden Hardy or Olivier-Maxence Prosper, it could be a valuable move.
The Mavericks urgently need a reliable scorer off the bench or someone who can fill in as a spot starter when Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving are unavailable. Clarkson, who averages 16 points per game this season, fits the bill. However, he’s currently dealing with a torn plantar fascia in his left foot. While he’s set for re-evaluation soon, there’s no certainty he’ll regain his scoring form post-Injury.
