NBA rumors continue to circulate about the Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers’ actions leading up to the February 6 trade deadline, with particular focus on where Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler might end up, given the ongoing tension between the two sides.
It seems the Mavericks have already made a decision regarding the possibility of a significant trade. Insider Jake Fischer reported that the Mavericks are not pursuing Butler after acquiring Anthony Davis in exchange for Luka Doncic.
“That [trading for Jimmy Butler] was a rumor going around this morning,” Fischer explained during a Bleacher Report live stream on Sunday. “I’ve checked it with multiple people.
“I’ve been told by several sources familiar with the situation that the Mavericks are not looking to target Jimmy Butler right now. That’s something I can confirm, but they are planning something.”
Fischer also noted that the Mavericks are preparing for further moves, evidenced by Davis’ choice to decline his $5.9 million trade kicker. This move was made by Davis to grant Dallas greater flexibility for additional roster changes.
The Mavericks sent Doncic, Maxi Kleber, Markieff Morris, and a 2025 second-round pick to the Utah Jazz as part of a three-team trade, acquiring Davis, Max Christie, and a Lakers 2029 first-round pick in the blockbuster deal.
