Dončić and LeBron James, known more for their offensive skills, won’t be able to fill that role.
To address this, the Lakers are reportedly looking at Caleb Martin of the Philadelphia 76ers, according to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer. Although Martin has been dealing with injuries this season, his high-energy, defensive-minded play was crucial for the Miami Heat during their 2023 NBA Finals run. The Lakers need a big man to replace Davis’ two-way impact, but adding a strong perimeter defender like Martin could also bolster their roster. However, the Lakers’ trade options may be limited, as they lack players in the $4 million to $10 million salary range, making a trade with the 76ers challenging.
The Sacramento Kings are also interested in Martin, though their trade plans are complicated by ongoing De’Aaron Fox rumors.
