The Dallas Mavericks are entering a new phase after acquiring Anthony Davis in a blockbuster trade that sent 25-year-old Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers—one of the most significant trades in NBA history. While the deal is finalized, Davis’ debut remains uncertain as he recovers from an abdominal injury.

Speaking to Mavericks reporters in Dallas on Tuesday, Davis confirmed, “I won’t be available for the team’s matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers at 7 p.m. ET.” However, he mentioned that he could return as early as Thursday, depending on his recovery, as reported by Tim Bontemps of ESPN.

Davis last played on January 28 against the 76ers. Despite dealing with an abdominal strain, he has been outstanding throughout the 2024-25 season, averaging 25.7 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per game. Standing 6-foot-10, Davis offers a different playing style compared to Doncic, with a strong emphasis on defense. He will join a talented Mavericks lineup that includes Kyrie Irving, PJ Washington, Daniel Gafford, and Derek Lively II.
