The Philadelphia 76ers are making a shift in their wing lineup, sending Caleb Martin to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for 24-year-old Quentin Grimes and a 2025 second-round pick, according to Shams Charania from ESPN. Martin, who signed a four-year, $35 million deal (with bonuses that could push it closer to $40 million), has struggled with injuries throughout his first season, missing 18 games. He was listed as questionable to return just before the game against his new team, the Mavericks.

In Grimes, the Sixers acquire a promising wing who is more defensively capable and a stronger three-point shooter than Martin. Grimes has averaged 10.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game this season while shooting a career-best 39.8% from three-point range. Grimes, who will be a restricted free agent after the season, can have his contract matched by the Sixers if another team makes an offer. He was previously drafted by the New York Knicks in the 2021 draft and was later traded to Dallas after spending time with the Detroit Pistons.

With the trade, the Sixers not only regain their 2025 second-round pick but also save nearly $4 million in salary for the upcoming season.
