The Golden State Warriors have made a bold move by acquiring former Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler ahead of the trade deadline.
Butler, who had openly expressed his desire to leave Miami and join a Western Conference contender, is now officially part of the Warriors. His departure followed a series of disagreements with the Heat and multiple suspensions.
At his introductory press conference on Thursday, Butler shared his excitement about playing alongside Stephen Curry and being part of Golden State.
“For me, I’m just so happy to be playing basketball again, honestly,” Butler said. “But to do it with an organization like this, alongside some incredibly talented guys, I’m grateful for the opportunity to be here, help us win, and do something special.”
The six-time All-Star also acknowledged the relief of leaving suspensions behind.
“The biggest part of agreeing to join the Warriors was simply getting back on the court,” he said. “I’m very, very, very happy that I don’t have to worry about suspensions anymore.”
Butler’s Reflection on His Miami Journey
Despite his exit, Butler expressed deep appreciation for his time with the Heat.
“I’m good. I don’t have too many bad things to say about them,” he admitted. “They gave me an opportunity, and I feel like I did my job at the highest level. I have so much respect for that organization, the people running it, and my former teammates. I’ll always wish them the best.”
He also emphasized the strong relationships he built in Miami.
“I have a lot of love for many people in that organization. I just want them to know I’m very grateful for the connections I’ve made, ones I’ll keep for a lifetime.”
His Only Regret? Losing His Coffee Shop
When asked if he had any regrets about how things ended with the Heat, Butler had just one: losing access to his Miami-based coffee shop.
“Just one. I just opened my coffee shop in Miami, and now I can’t go there anymore,” Butler said. “So we have to figure out a way to get one in San Francisco.
With Butler now settled in San Francisco, the Warriors are hoping his presence will help propel them back into serious playoff contention.
