Over the past few weeks, the Dallas Mavericks have been losing fans at a staggering rate. The controversy began when general manager Nico Harrison made a shocking move, trading Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers.
In return, the Mavericks acquired Anthony Davis, but the 2020 NBA champion has been sidelined indefinitely due to an injury sustained during his season debut.
During this turbulent period, the team’s ownership has continued to downplay the growing frustration among fans.
A prime example occurred during a recent game against the Sacramento Kings, when a fan was ejected for chanting “Fire Nico” while the Mavericks were shooting free throws in a crucial moment.
What made the incident even more notable was that minority owner Mark Cuban, who was on the sidelines, got into a heated exchange with the fan.
A widely circulated video clip captures Cuban dropping multiple F-bombs on the crowd. As expected, Mavericks fans reacted furiously, taking to X (formerly known as Twitter) to voice their frustrations.
“Mark Cuban is saying way worse things here than fans yelling ‘Fire Nico,’” one fan pointed out.
“Cuban is a bh. Expect nothing less,”* another added.
“Watch out, he is a tough guy! I can’t believe I liked this guy years back. What a tool,” wrote another user.
“Seems like Cuban was the one violating the code of conduct,” one fan noted.
Given that Cuban was the Mavericks’ majority owner until 2024, his confrontation with the fanbase has left many stunned.
