New York Mets Injury Updates – March 9, 2025

    Brandon Nimmo

Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo is currently dealing with right knee soreness, which has delayed his return to the lineup. Initially set to participate in Grapefruit League games, he received a gel injection after feeling discomfort while running. An MRI confirmed there was no structural damage, and despite the setback, the team remains hopeful he’ll be ready for Opening Day. Manager Carlos Mendoza expressed confidence in his recovery, stating, “We still believe he’ll get enough at-bats before the season starts.”

    Sean Reid-Foley

Right-handed pitcher Sean Reid-Foley, who underwent Tommy John surgery in May 2022, successfully returned in 2023, posting a 3.52 ERA over eight games. He continued to perform well in 2024 with a 1.66 ERA across 23 appearances before a right shoulder impingement ended his season in June. He was placed on the 60-day injured list in September but re-signed with the Mets on a one-year deal in November, aiming for a comeback in the bullpen this season.

    Francisco Álvarez

Catcher Francisco Álvarez suffered a left thumb ligament tear in April 2024, which required surgery and kept him out for over a month. He returned in June and played 100 games, finishing with a .237 batting average, 11 home runs, and 47 RBIs. Currently, Álvarez is healthy and expected to play a crucial role in the 2025 season.

The Mets continue to monitor these players’ progress as they prepare for Opening Day.
