Celtics’ Late-Season Surge: Can They Steal the No. 1 Seed?

    “The Boston Celtics are coming.”

With the NBA season winding down, the second-seeded Celtics are regaining their momentum. Kristaps Porzingis, now fully recovered from a nine-game absence due to illness, has played a key role in their current six-game winning streak—tied for the longest in the league. Meanwhile, last year’s Finals MVP, Jaylen Brown, continues to battle a lingering knee injury that could affect his performance for the rest of the season. Despite this, Boston remains a strong title contender as they aim for back-to-back championships.

Since February, the Celtics have posted a stellar 19-4 record, putting them just five games behind the Cleveland Cavaliers for the Eastern Conference’s top spot. With their eyes set on another championship run, the team hopes to have all key players in top form. The contributions of role players like Al Horford, Jrue Holiday, Derrick White, and Sixth Man of the Year frontrunner Payton Pritchard have been crucial to their success, leading them to an impressive 53-19 record.

Boston Faces a Tough Road to Overtake Cleveland

However, securing the No. 1 seed won’t be an easy task. The Cavaliers have put together an exceptional season, boasting a roster that complements their three All-Stars. Key players like Jarrett Allen, Ty Jerome, Max Strus, and newly acquired Sixth Man of the Year contender De’Andre Hunter have strengthened the team.

Cleveland hasn’t reached the NBA Finals since LeBron James left for the Lakers in 2018, but this squad has the potential to be one of the best in franchise history. They made history by starting the season 15-0 under a first-year head coach and later extended that streak to 16 games.

For Boston to claim the top seed, it’s not just about winning—they need Cleveland to stumble in their remaining games. With just 10 games left, the Celtics must be near-perfect while hoping the Cavs slip up. The odds may be against them, but Celtics fans aren’t losing hope yet.
