Liverpool Plot Daring Double Raid: Wirtz Deal Sparks Gordon Pursuit in Stunning Summer Shake-Up

Liverpool’s Wirtz Breakthrough Sparks Gordon Plot as Attacking Overhaul Looms

The red half of Merseyside could be in for a shock summer shuffle, with Liverpool plotting an audacious double swoop—Florian Wirtz and Anthony Gordon. But this ambitious plan may come at the cost of a fan-favorite forward.

That’s the intriguing hint dropped by veteran talent-spotter Mick Brown, who revealed to Football Insider that Liverpool’s shortlist is heating up under new manager Arne Slot. With a Wirtz deal close to completion, eyes have turned once again to Newcastle’s electric winger, Anthony Gordon.

“Anthony Gordon is still on their radar,” Brown stated. “He’s been one of the top names for Liverpool for a while. He’s a Liverpool lad, was at Everton before, and they know him very well.“

According to Brown, Liverpool’s recruitment is being calculated with precision. The club, it seems, is not content with adding just Wirtz—unless existing stars are shown the door. The likes of Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, and Darwin Nunez are all under scrutiny.

“They’ve got a few players there—Diaz, Gakpo, Nunez—who could leave,” Brown added. “And those sales would open the door for Gordon to come in.“

Indeed, Football Insider had already reported on 22 May that Gordon is firmly back on Slot’s radar. The winger nearly made the switch to Anfield last summer, and sources claim he privately expressed being “very keen” on the move.

What adds spice to the saga is that Newcastle could be open to letting Gordon go—if the price is right. Massive offers from both Liverpool and Arsenal are reportedly on the table, and the Magpies may be tempted to cash in.

“They’ve been talking about Wirtz as well, and it looks like that deal is going to happen,” Brown emphasized. “But that isn’t going to stop them having a look at Gordon.“

Liverpool’s summer strategy under Slot is bold and ruthless. With Gordon potentially replacing Diaz, the message is clear: reputations won’t guarantee starting spots.

Away from the forward line, Liverpool are also actively chasing reinforcements. Stuttgart’s Angelo Stiller and Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez are top targets for midfield and left-back roles, respectively—moves that could push the Reds’ transfer spree past the £150m mark.

As the summer window heats up, one thing is certain: Liverpool are back in business, and they’re not just shopping—they’re reshaping.
