Ranking the Suns’ 4 Best Kevin Durant Trade Packages — But Only One Truly Stands Out

Kevin Durant’s time with the Phoenix Suns appears headed toward another dramatic turn. Following a lackluster 36–46 season that ended without a playoff berth, the Suns face a major decision: rebuild or reload. As multiple teams express interest in the 36-year-old star, Phoenix has an opportunity to reshape its future—if they secure the right deal.

Durant reportedly favors a move to San Antonio, Houston, or Miami, and league insiders are closely watching which package offers the best path forward for both Phoenix and KD. Below, we rank the top four realistic trade proposals based on fit, value, and potential impact for both sides.

    —

    A Sudden Fall from Contention

The 2024–25 season began with championship hopes but quickly unraveled. The Suns fell short in nearly every aspect—offense, defense, and chemistry. Injuries and lineup instability left the team disjointed and far removed from its contender status.

With the franchise taking calls and Durant narrowing his preferred landing spots, the buzz is growing. While any deal is expected to be substantial, it’s unlikely to match recent blockbuster returns, like Desmond Bane netting four first-round picks for Memphis.

Phoenix does maintain leverage, but Durant’s preferences matter. Let’s break down the top offers from Houston, San Antonio, Miami, and a wildcard team—and see which one Suns president Mat Ishbia should prioritize.

    —

    1. Houston Rockets

    Rockets receive: Kevin Durant
Suns receive: Jalen Green, Jabari Smith Jr., Jock Landale, 2025 No. 10 pick

This trade sits atop the list for good reason. Jalen Green and Jabari Smith Jr. represent exciting young core pieces, while Jock Landale offers depth and salary balancing. The No. 10 pick gives Phoenix a valuable asset for either rebuilding or making another move.

There are rumors Houston is reluctant to give up both Green and Smith—but acquiring Durant would immediately elevate them into playoff contention. From Phoenix’s perspective, getting high-upside talent and a top pick provides a solid launching pad for a new era.

This move sends a clear message: Houston wants to win now, Phoenix gains young stars and flexibility, and Durant joins a team with serious potential. Everyone wins.

    —

    2. San Antonio Spurs

    Spurs receive: Kevin Durant
Suns receive: Devin Vassell, Keldon Johnson, Jeremy Sochan, 2025 No. 14 pick

San Antonio’s offer comes in a close second. Pairing Durant with Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox would put the Spurs into immediate title contention. The Suns, in turn, would receive a blend of proven talent and future value.

Vassell brings shooting and perimeter defense, Johnson adds scoring versatility, and Sochan offers strong two-way potential. Add a mid-first-round pick to the mix, and the package starts to look very appealing.

The downside? San Antonio may not offer as much draft capital as Houston. Still, the synergy of KD joining a rising young squad led by Wembanyama makes this a tempting proposition.

    —

    3. Miami Heat

    Heat receive: Kevin Durant
Suns receive: Andrew Wiggins, Kel’el Ware, Duncan Robinson, 2025 No. 20 pick, future 1st-round pick

Miami’s offer may not be packed with elite young talent, but it checks off several boxes. Wiggins is still capable of scoring explosions, Kel’el Ware brings rim protection and upside, and Robinson’s expiring deal provides financial relief. The two draft picks round out a balanced package.

What sets this offer apart is the Heat’s culture and playoff pedigree. Durant would be joining a team built to compete deep into the postseason, and one that often attracts elite free agents. Yet, from Phoenix’s perspective, the lack of a marquee young player may weaken its appeal.

    —

    4. Minnesota Timberwolves

    Timberwolves receive: Kevin Durant
Suns receive: Rudy Gobert, Donte DiVincenzo, Rob Dillingham

This is the long shot of the group. While the package offers defense and potential, KD reportedly has no interest in joining Minnesota.

Gobert provides elite rim protection but comes with a massive contract and declining offensive impact. DiVincenzo brings shooting and toughness, while Dillingham is a developmental piece. However, the lack of picks or star upside makes this the weakest of the bunch—especially if Durant won’t buy in.

    What Phoenix Should Do

All eyes are on Houston. Their combination of high-ceiling youth and draft assets makes their offer the most appealing. San Antonio’s deal is close but lacks Houston’s overall depth. Miami is attractive for Durant himself but offers less long-term value. Minnesota? It’s unlikely and uninspiring.

The Suns must decide if they’re rebuilding or simply retooling. If they want the best long-term foundation, Houston is the logical choice. If it’s all about maximizing KD’s remaining years, San Antonio makes headlines. Miami offers stability, and Minnesota, at best, is an emergency option.
