Ipswich Town enter the 2025/26 Championship season needing a strong response following their relegation from the Premier League.
The top-flight challenge exposed squad vulnerabilities, and if promotion is to be the goal, then precise and impactful recruitment will be essential.

With Kieran McKenna at the helm, the summer window presents a vital opportunity to strengthen the squad—not just by replacing those departing, but by injecting new quality and energy suited to the intensity of the Championship. Fans at Portman Road will be eager to see who comes in to reignite their club’s Premier League ambitions.

Here’s a breakdown of what an ideal summer transfer window might look like for Ipswich Town:

Ideal Summer Additions for Ipswich Town

Return of Loan Standout Jens Cajuste

Having spent the 2024/25 Premier League campaign on loan at Ipswich, Jens Cajuste proved to be a key figure in midfield with his athleticism, energy, and strength—qualities that translate well to the Championship. His understanding of McKenna’s tactics and familiarity with the squad would ease any potential transition.

The club are reportedly eager to bring him back. However, any permanent move would hinge on Napoli’s asking price, especially as they are rumored to be offering him to other clubs to help facilitate their own deals.

Norwich Striker Josh Sargent a Bold Target

With Liam Delap now at Chelsea, Ipswich must find a reliable source of goals. Though there are no concrete links, someone with a proven Championship record is a top priority.

Josh Sargent—despite being on the books at local rivals Norwich City—fits the bill. His ability to score consistently, hold up play, and contribute across attacking phases makes him an ideal fit for McKenna’s system. Securing a striker of his caliber would require a firm commitment of funds and swift action.

    Palace Prospect Tayo Adaramola

Young defender Tayo Adaramola has gained valuable experience during the 2024/25 season with loan spells at Stockport County and Bradford City. Able to play at left-back or as part of a back three, his versatility aligns well with McKenna’s tactical flexibility.

With Crystal Palace known for nurturing talent through strategic loans, a Championship move would be a logical next step in Adaramola’s development.

Liverpool Midfielder Tyler Morton a Potential Fit

Having caught the eye during his time at Blackburn Rovers in the 2023/24 campaign, Tyler Morton showed composure, vision, and excellent passing ability—traits that suit Ipswich’s midfield profile. A temporary move from Liverpool could benefit both clubs, offering Morton minutes at a high level while boosting Town’s engine room.

A number of Championship sides are likely to be interested, so Ipswich may need to act quickly to secure him.

Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers a Wide Option

Following Omari Hutchinson’s successful stint, Ipswich will likely look for a similarly dynamic winger. Morgan Rogers, who joined Aston Villa recently, might be seeking more regular playing time.

His flair, dribbling, and ability to play across the frontline would add a creative edge. Whether Villa see a Championship loan as appropriate for his development could determine his availability.

    Potential Departures at Portman Road

Several names from last season’s squad are unlikely to return. Kalvin Phillips has completed his loan and is back with Manchester City. A permanent switch seems improbable, largely due to valuation and Ipswich’s Championship status.

Ipswich have also confirmed the departures of key promotion contributors Massimo Luongo and Marcus Harness in their retained list announcement.

Defenders Axel Tuanzebe and Cameron Burgess are set to exit once their contracts expire on June 30, 2025, despite contract offers being made. Their decisions not to renew underline the significant squad rebuild facing Kieran McKenna this summer.
