In one of the strangest storylines of the NBA season, the Miami Heat ultimately had no choice but to trade away Jimmy Butler. The six-time All-Star grew increasingly frustrated after Pat Riley chose not to offer him a contract extension ahead of the 2024–25 season — an extension that was projected to be worth around $113 million over two years. Although Butler initially requested to be traded to select teams, he eventually agreed to join the Golden State Warriors.
As part of a massive five-team deal, Miami received Davion Mitchell, Kyle Anderson, and 2014’s No. 1 overall pick, Andrew Wiggins.
After a disappointing season in which the Heat barely made the playoffs and were swiftly eliminated by the Cleveland Cavaliers, Pat Riley is expected to be aggressive this offseason — both in pursuing new players and moving on from current ones.
According to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, that includes being open to moving both Wiggins and Terry Rozier.
“After letting Duncan Robinson walk in free agency, the Heat are below the first apron and still looming on the trade market as a team wanting to make a substantial move,” Siegel wrote. “Andrew Wiggins and Terry Rozier are two players the Heat would like to trade, sources said. Neither player would be involved in a potential Kuminga sign-and-trade for the Warriors to bring back.”
At this point, it remains unclear what kind of deal Miami might pursue involving Wiggins and Rozier.
