According to multiple sources, including ESPN’s Stephen Holder, Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. has resumed throwing. This development comes just one week before Indianapolis heads into training camp, signaling a positive step forward in his recovery.
Richardson had previously stated he “would be ready for training camp,” during a conversation with Zach Goodall from Swamp 24/7 for CBS Sports. At the time, the third-year QB was still working through right shoulder soreness—believed to be a minor setback from the AC joint surgery he underwent as a rookie in 2023. That soreness forced him to miss most of spring workouts.
While the latest update is encouraging, his return to full-speed camp activity may still be gradual. According to Holder’s report, “It remains possible Richardson could be on a so-called pitch count early in camp to allow him to ramp up and avoid fatigue. That will ultimately be decided by the Colts’ medical staff.”
Additionally, Holder noted that “the Colts have not had a chance to personally evaluate Richardson because players have been on their summer breaks. That will happen when Richardson returns to Indianapolis for training camp next week. Players are required to report by Tuesday.”
Due to the shoulder setback, Richardson missed the chance to compete this spring with Daniel Jones, who joined the Colts on a one-year, $14 million deal. It’s a critical year for Richardson, who regressed in Year 2 and completed just 47.7% of his passes—ranking last among quarterbacks in 2024.
On a more optimistic note, reports indicate Richardson has been working on his mechanics throughout the offseason. With camp around the corner, he’ll now have a crucial opportunity to show growth and fight for the starting job in what could be a defining season for his NFL future.
