New revelations have surfaced in the betting controversy surrounding Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier — and the story just got a lot messier.
According to ESPN’s David Purdum, a pro bettor successfully hit 30 out of 30 bets involving Rozier during a 2023 NBA game. The matchup happened on March 23, 2023, when Rozier — still with the Charlotte Hornets at the time — faced the New Orleans Pelicans.
Purdum reports that a bettor in Biloxi, Mississippi, placed $13,759 worth of bets — all on Rozier’s unders — within just 46 minutes that morning. Later that night, Rozier exited the game after only 10 minutes of play due to a reported foot injury. He finished with 5 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists — all falling below his projected lines. With that, the bettor’s 30 wagers all hit.
What raised even more eyebrows is that at least six sportsbooks across different states reportedly flagged the betting activity as “unusual.” The majority of that action came out of Louisiana and Mississippi, according to the report.
The casino where the bets were made, Harrah’s Gulf Coast, initially refused to pay out, citing a house rule related to “rigging” and suspicions of insider information. However, they eventually paid out the winnings, totaling $13,017.70.
Rozier, a former Louisville standout, is currently under federal investigation, despite earlier reports that he had been cleared. Shams Charania of ESPN previously reported that Rozier had “essentially been cleared” in the investigation, but recent updates reveal that is no longer the case and that “Rozier is still under investigation.”
While the NBA conducted their own probe and found no breach of league rules, Rozier’s future remains murky. He hasn’t been charged with any crime but is still under the federal spotlight — and his situation echoes the one that led to a lifetime ban for Jontay Porter.
Making things even more interesting: Miami recently traded for another guard, hinting at possible insurance — or preparation — for a future without Rozier.
