LeBron James does not appear to be considering retiring based on his current level of play.
Don’t worry about the age. Even if he’s averaging 25.2 points, 8.1 assists, and 7.3 rebounds per game, the Lakers still win because of his enthusiasm. At 39 years old, he is in his 21st season in the NBA and has been an All-NBA player.
On Easter Sunday, LeBron showed off his intensity by making nine 3-pointers out of ten tries and scoring forty points to lead the Lakers to a 116-104 victory in Brooklyn.
Even though LeBron appears to be able to play into his 50s when he is playing this well, the subject of when he could retire came up after the game. LeBron understands that the finish is much nearer than the beginning.
Here’s LeBron’s full answer when asked how much longer he will play.
“Not very long. Not very long. I’m on the other side, obviously, of the hill. So I’m not going to play another 21 years, that’s for damn sure. But not very long. I don’t know what or when that door will close as far as when I retire, but I don’t have much time left.”
He’s applying pressure on the Lakers front office while being sincere. Despite having All-NBA calibre seasons from LeBron and Anthony Davis, the Lakers are currently the nine-seed and will probably need to win two games in the play-in round to even get into the playoffs. To assist handle the weight during the regular season, Rob Pelinka and company need to assemble a stronger team.
However, the Lakers can defeat anyone if LeBron plays as well as he did on Easter Sunday during the playoffs.
