Mauricio Pochettino’s news briefings are not always particularly intriguing.

    Mauricio Pochettino

There are a lot of ambiguous injury reports, some platitudes about the need to be more mature, some excuses about young players requiring time and experience, and that’s all.

Today, however, he did manage to dig into some fascinating specifics when asked to address his team’s continuous effort to strike the balance between defence and attack.

The future is bright, he added, “but when we lose the ball, always we react a little bit late, always we are disappointed, we are frustrated, we blame each other: ‘why didn’t you give me the ball!’ and so on like this.”

Players like Cole Palmer are ideal examples; his contributions in attack are unparalleled, and we might be in the relegation zone without him this season.

However, his off-ball efforts are inadequate, and they end up damaging the entire squad.
