Recent Arsenal transfer news includes an update on Bruno Guimaraes and a more affordable alternative the Gunners are considering.

Arsenal’s interest in acquiring Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes persists, although the likelihood of a transfer materializing appears slim. This summer, the Gunners are anticipated to be quite active, facing numerous decisions regarding player arrivals and departures.

Similar to Guimaraes, Alexander Isak is also on Arsenal’s transfer radar from the North East, yet Newcastle is not eager to sell either player. Isak’s substantial asking price suggests a potential reluctance for his departure, while there are specific concerns surrounding Guimaraes’ situation.

Until the end of June, there’s a £100 million release clause in the contract of the Brazil international, and the specifics of this clause were recently disclosed. Newcastle is facing financial fair play troubles, and this weekend saw a worst-case scenario unfolding for Eddie Howe’s team.

After Manchester United’s victory in the FA Cup against Manchester City, Erik ten Hag’s team secured a place in the upcoming Europa League, despite finishing eighth. Consequently, Chelsea has been relegated to the Europa Conference League, while Newcastle has been excluded from European competitions altogether.

The financial implications of this situation are significant, with reduced matchday revenue and fewer opportunities for prize money. This may lead Newcastle to consider selling one of their key players, with Guimaraes being more probable to leave than Isak, although it’s unlikely that Guimaraes will move to the Emirates Stadium.

“Arsenal have no plans to trigger the (£100m) release clause,” journalist Ben Jacobs revealed recently. “They will only consider a move if the price drops. Martin Zubimendi remains a more concrete possibility. Guimaraes has given every indication he’s happy at Newcastle, but an exit can’t be discounted due to the clause.”
