Mets’ Alonso Trade Saga: Deadline Looms with Potential Blockbusters!

Discussions surrounding a potential trade of Pete Alonso within the Mets fanbase have gained momentum. While it remains uncertain whether the trade will materialize, unlike the White Sox who are actively preparing to offload players, the Mets haven’t fully committed to a selling strategy just yet.

As time progresses, trade rumors involving Alonso are intensifying, indicating a growing likelihood of his departure from the team.

Should the Mets Trade Pete Alonso?

This question looms large over the baseball community this summer, with a probable affirmative answer.

There are compelling reasons why trading Alonso is in the best interest of the Mets and what a potential trade package could look like before the deadline.

One of the primary motivations for trading Alonso is the Mets’ current distance from playoff contention. Despite the expanded MLB playoffs, the team’s lackluster performance in May has significantly undermined their chances. Even if they manage to bounce back, they would still face stiff competition in a crowded playoff race, limiting their potential impact.

Additionally, Alonso’s contract situation adds to the urgency of a trade. While he may not secure a record-breaking contract, projections suggest he could command at least $200 million in free agency this winter. With agent Scott Boras in the picture, Alonso is likely to pursue the highest bidder, potentially leaving the Mets struggling to retain him. Hence, trading him now could yield valuable assets rather than risking losing him for nothing.

    The Only Potential Saving Grace

The only scenario where retaining Alonso could be feasible is if the Mets can negotiate a contract extension before the trade deadline. However, given Boras’s involvement and Alonso’s past rejection of a substantial offer, this outcome seems improbable. Barring an exceptional winning streak altering the team’s narrative, trading Alonso appears to be the most prudent course of action.

    Pete Alonso Trade Packages

Fortunately for the Mets, Alonso’s market value ensures a plethora of suitors and enticing trade packages. Despite a recent performance dip, Alonso remains a sought-after power hitter, likely fetching the Mets high-quality prospects or a bundle of promising players.

Surprisingly, the Yankees have emerged as potential suitors, viewing Alonso as an upgrade over Anthony Rizzo. Potential trade assets from the Yankees could include promising pitchers like Brock Selvidge and Chase Hampton, outfielder Everson Pereira, and slugger Ben Rice. Additionally, the Mets’ other tradeable assets could contribute to a more significant return.

The Mariners, with their previous trade history with the Mets and a need for a first baseman, also stand out as potential trade partners. Prospects like Tyler Locklear, outfielders Lazaro Montes, and Colt Emerson could bolster the Mets’ farm system.

Beyond the Yankees and Mariners, teams like the Brewers and Twins, seeking improvement in the first base position, could also enter the Alonso trade fray. With Milwaukee boasting a robust farm system, the potential for a compelling trade package exists, providing the Mets with opportunities to strengthen their roster.
