Aaron Rodgers’ new Netflix documentary Enigma offers a deep dive into his life, exploring topics like his drug use, family dynamics, past relationships, his Achilles injury, and the Packers’ decision to draft Jordan Love as his successor. The quarterback reveals his reaction upon learning about Green Bay selecting Love in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Rodgers recalls his initial response after hearing the news from his agent: “No fโโ way,” followed by pouring himself some tequila. “I looked down at my phone and my agent just texted me: โQuarterback.โ And I was like, โNo fโโ way,โ” Rodgers shares in the documentary. “Then the pick happens, and I immediately got off the couch and was super non-reactive. And I just went to pour myself some tequila and went back to the couch and knew there was going to be some interesting conversations.”
Despite his bitterness over the Packers’ decision, Rodgers responded by winning back-to-back MVP awards in 2020 and 2021. During these seasons, he posted a 26-6 record, completed 69.8% of his passes for 8,414 yards, 85 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions, with an average passer rating of 116.7. The Packers won the NFC North in both seasons but lost in the playoffsโfirst to the Buccaneers in the 2020 NFC Championship and then to the 49ers in the 2021 Divisional Round.
Since Rodgers’ departure in 2023, Love has emerged as another potential franchise quarterback for Green Bay, leading the team to the NFC Championship last season. Heading into Week 16 with a 10-4 record, Love has completed 63.7% of his passes for 2,953 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Meanwhile, Rodgers and the Jets sit at 4-10, although he has shown glimpses of his former self in recent weeks.
