Anthony Davis reassured Mavericks fans with a positive health update after leaving Saturday’s game against the Houston Rockets at the American Airlines Center. The star big man dominated the first half but had to exit in the third quarter due to a non-contact injury, raising concerns. However, Davis clarified postgame that it wasn’t serious.

“Leg got tight, like a little spasm,” Davis explained. “Came back, tried to get it loose and everything. Obviously, dealing with the ab strain still, so just tried to get it loose, it wouldn’t really loosen up, let go. But it’s nothing serious. I’m fine.”

When asked about the specific area of his injury, he responded:

“My groin. Like groin-quad kind of area, right in there.”

Non-contact injuries often spark concern, but Davis’ statement eased some worries. Before exiting, he had been having a stellar game, tallying 24 points (9-13 FG), 13 rebounds, five assists, and three blocks by halftime, helping Dallas build a 65-48 lead. He finished with 26 points (10-18 FG), 16 rebounds, seven assists, and three blocks.

NBA insider Shams Charania provided additional insight on NBA Countdown:

“Anthony Davis has some soreness in that groin area, but it’s not expected to be a serious injury,” Charania said. “They’ll see tonight, tomorrow how he feels. I’m told he actually tried to play after exiting the game tonight but they just decided to be cautious with it. We’re about less than a week before the All-Star break, so I do think that Mavericks and Anthony Davis will take a safe approach going into the break.”

Given that Davis had just returned from a five-game absence due to an abdominal strain, the Mavericks opted for caution. With three games left before the All-Star break, it remains to be seen if Davis will suit up.

Despite his exit, the Mavericks held off a late push from the Rockets and secured a 116-105 win, improving to 28-25 on the season. They now aim for a third straight victory when they face the Sacramento Kings on Monday at 8:30 PM ET.
