During Thursday’s matchup between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Houston Rockets, Anthony Edwards and Dillon Brooks found themselves in a heated exchange.
The confrontation occurred midway through the second quarter when, with Houston leading 51-48, both players got tangled up and refused to let go. Officials had to intervene to separate them before tensions escalated further.
After the game, Edwards didn’t hold back in his assessment of Brooks’ playing style, describing him as a dirty player while acknowledging his competitive spirit.
“Everybody know how Dillon Brooks is, man. He play dirty. He’s a competitor. I love the competing part, but all the little slick little dirty s*** …,” Edwards said, per The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski.
Edwards also recounted how Brooks hit him in the face, leading to an exchange of words. “How much crying you gonna do?” Brooks asked. Edwards responded, “We can compete all day. We can talk s*** all day. But when you get to doing that, it’s more than basketball at that point.”
Edwards Leads Timberwolves to Victory
Despite the intense moment, Edwards had the last laugh as the Timberwolves secured a 127-114 win. The game remained competitive through three quarters, with Houston holding a 98-92 lead heading into the fourth. However, Minnesota surged ahead, outscoring the Rockets 35-16 in the final 12 minutes.
Edwards delivered a stellar performance, finishing with a game-high 41 points on 11-of-25 shooting, including 5-of-12 from three-point range. He also contributed seven rebounds and six assists, with 16 of his points coming in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
With this victory, Minnesota improved to a 29-23 record, tying them with the Los Angeles Clippers for sixth place in the Western Conference. Up next, the Timberwolves will host the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET.
