Arsenal are reportedly edging closer to signing Sverre Nypan, a promising 18-year-old midfielder from Rosenborg, despite competition from Manchester City’s sister club Girona.

Nypan, who has drawn comparisons toArsenal captain Martin Odegaard, impressed last season with 18 goal contributions in 33 appearances for Rosenborg.
The Guardian reports that Arsenal are “hopeful” of agreeing on a deal, with rival Premier League clubs like Aston Villa and Tottenham also in the race. Additionally, Nypan was spotted in Erling Haaland’s private box during Manchester City’s 3-1 victory over Chelsea, which has further fueled speculation. His agent, Rafaela Pimenta, was seen with him at the game, while Girona are also a potential competitor for his signature.
Rosenborg are reportedly asking for an initial £10 million fee, with “significant add-ons.” Arsenal’s interest is particularly driven by a need to reinforce their midfield, as players like Thomas Partey and Jorginho are potentially leaving at the end of their contracts. Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta commented earlier this month about contract renewals and the club’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the squad.
Arsenal are also seeking to bolster their attacking options following injuries to key players like Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus. RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko has been linked to the club, but Leipzig’s manager Marco Rose has made it clear that Sesko will not be leaving in January.
