Arsenal Make ‘Shock Swoop’ to ‘Add More Firepower’ as Mikel Arteta Hints at ‘Extraordinary’ Transfer Move

Arsenal are reportedly eyeing a surprising January move as manager Mikel Arteta aims to add more attacking options to his squad. Despite a solid defense, the Gunners have had a frustrating start to the 2024/25 season, trailing Liverpool in the Premier League title race.

One of their key concerns has been their lack of attacking depth, relying heavily on set pieces. The absence of key players like Bukayo Saka and Martin Ødegaard has also exposed their struggles in front of goal.

With Saka set to miss several months due to hamstring surgery, Arsenal is considering entering the transfer market for a winger to fill the void. Among the potential targets is Bayern Munich and France star Kingsley Coman, who has reportedly emerged as a primary option.

At 28 years old, Coman has had a less prominent role at Bayern this season, starting only six matches in the Bundesliga. However, he has still managed three goals and two assists in 13 appearances.

According to Football Insider, Arsenal are keen on making a surprise move for Coman this January, in light of Saka’s injury. The club is looking to add more firepower, and Coman is seen as a valuable addition to their attack.

Despite their struggles in the final third, Arteta has made it clear that Arsenal are not necessarily looking for a striker to win the title. He stressed that any new signing must be exceptional and have a significant impact on the team. Arteta stated, “I’m very happy with the players that we have. When you look at the amount of goals that we have scored as well, it is more than enough to win the Premier League. But the reality is somebody is doing more. And that is the reality of life so we have to do better.”

He further added, “Signing somebody is not enough, that is for sure. That signing has to score then how many goals? A lot of things have to happen. That (January) market is much more limited than in the one summer, but I don’t know. If something extraordinary is in the market that we can afford and we think will have a real impact on the team we have to be open for that possibility always.”

Arteta also acknowledged the increased workload on players like Gabriel and emphasized the need for squad management as they navigate through a busy schedule.
