Arsenal is reportedly looking to strengthen their squad during the upcoming January transfer window, as they aim to bolster their title challenge.
Several players have been linked with moves to the Emirates, including Viktor Gyokeres, the Sporting striker who has scored 27 goals in 25 matches this season. According to Football Transfers, Arsenal is in contact with Gyokeres, with Sporting reportedly setting his asking price at around €65million (£54m).
Additionally, Spanish outlet Fichajes claims that Arsenal has reached an “agreement in principle” to sign Las Palmas’ Alberto Moleiro for his €60m (£50m) release clause next summer. Moleiro has impressed this season with four goals in 17 games, and it’s expected that an official announcement regarding his future could come soon.
Former Arsenal winger Jermaine Pennant has urged the club to sign a new striker, emphasizing the need for a consistent goal-scorer to compete for the league title. “A new number nine is a priority for Arsenal in the January transfer window,” Pennant stated. “If you want to win or even challenge for the league, you must look at the other teams that have done that, they have a striker that gets you 20-25 goals a season, Arsenal don’t have that.”
Pennant pointed out that Arsenal is overly reliant on Bukayo Saka for goals, with Gabriel Martinelli’s finishing not yet reaching the same level.
