Arsenal are on the verge of securing their first major signing of the summer transfer window, signaling their intent to build on last season’s near-title success.
The Gunners narrowly missed out on the Premier League crown, finishing just two points behind Manchester City. To bridge this gap, sporting director Edu is under pressure to bring in two or three high-caliber additions, including a much-needed prolific number nine.
Addressing this crucial position, Arsenal are reportedly closing in on the acquisition of Viktor Gyokeres, according to the Sporting outlet Leonino:
“The negotiations have progressed to the point where only financial details are being finalized, suggesting that an agreement on broad terms has already been reached.”
Gyokeres, who joined Sporting just last July, has been a hot commodity this summer after scoring an impressive 43 goals across all competitions. Despite interest from Chelsea, it appears Arsenal are set to secure his services.
The exact financial commitment from Arsenal remains unclear. However, a recent report from TBR indicated that the club was prepared to offer up to £60 million for the Swedish international.
Given Gyokeres’ contract with Sporting runs until 2028, the Portuguese club holds a strong position in negotiations. It is unlikely that Arsenal will secure the striker for less than £60 million, a figure notably lower than his £85 million release clause.
The coming days will be critical for Arsenal as more details emerge about this potentially game-changing transfer.
