Ipswich Town has struck a deal with Blackburn Rovers for Sammie Szmodics that includes a bonus clause if Ipswich qualifies for European competition, according to journalist Alan Nixon.
After prolonged negotiations, Ipswich’s manager Kieran McKenna secured Szmodics last week, finalizing his move to Portman Road. Szmodics made his debut popas a substitute in Ipswichโs match against Liverpool on Saturday.
The agreement between the two clubs includes several bonuses that could increase the total amount Blackburn receives for Szmodics.
Notably, one of these bonuses is contingent on Ipswich qualifying for European competition, which would result in additional payment to Blackburn.
While many believe Ipswich’s primary goal this season will be to avoid relegation from the Premier League, Blackburn has ensured they will benefit if the Tractor Boys exceed expectations.
Szmodics had an outstanding season at Blackburn, scoring 33 goals and impressing at Ewood Park. Now, the former Peterborough United player is set to challenge Premier League defenses as he embarks on the next chapter of his career with Ipswich.
