As Chelsea gear up for a crucial summer transfer window, all eyes are on their striking department—a role that’s been a persistent weak point. With Nicolas Jackson struggling for form in 2025 and suspended for the final match against Nottingham Forest, the club’s need for a clinical forward has become more pressing than ever.
Despite heavy links to Napoli’s prolific forward Victor Osimhen last year, Chelsea were unable to secure his services and have now reportedly shifted their focus toward a younger, more promising talent—Benjamin Sesko. The 20-year-old RB Leipzig star has emerged as a key target for the Blues, as confirmed by transfer insider Graeme Bailey, who told The Chelsea Chronicle:
“I think Sesko is a fascinating one from what I’m hearing. They’ve always been in the Sesko hunt. They do like him a lot. And I think there’s been a few conversations about him in recent weeks.”
Bailey emphasized Chelsea’s pattern of prioritizing young, high-ceiling players since the new ownership took charge. Instead of splashing out on already-established names like Osimhen, the club appears to be building for the long term with players who can grow into world-class roles.
“I get the gut feeling Chelsea are going to go for a younger version like a Sesko or Delap. That’s the inclination I’m getting… I think if they do go down that route it might open up the Emegha option as number three, so you’ve got the competition there for Jackson as well.”
Sesko’s form has been encouraging this season, notching 13 goals and 5 assists in the Bundesliga—an improvement over his previous season’s tally. His increasing versatility and consistent development make him an ideal candidate for Chelsea’s forward line overhaul.
Interestingly, the club’s interest in Leipzig doesn’t stop with Sesko. Reports suggest that Christopher Nkunku, who has had an underwhelming stint at Stamford Bridge, might be used in a potential swap deal, as Leipzig are keen to bring him back. This opens further possibilities for negotiation and squad reshaping ahead of the new campaign.
With Chelsea believed to be ahead of rivals Tottenham in the pursuit of Sesko, the race for the next big Premier League striker might already have a frontrunner.
