The Dallas Cowboys have lost Brandin Cooks for at least four weeks and are in need of a No. 2 wide receiver to pair with CeeDee Lamb. With a shaky 3-2 start, the Cowboys have struggled to run the ball and defend the run. It seems quarterback Dak Prescott and the passing game will need to carry much of the load for the rest of the season. Prescott and Lamb secured a combined $376 million in new contract extensions over the offseason, but they can’t do it all alone.
On October 9, Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report proposed a trade idea where the Cowboys could acquire Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins before the NFLโs November 5 trade deadline.
“Higgins is a high-end No. 2 receiver who should draw a fair return, even in a market that could be flooded with receiver talent,” Knox wrote. “Dallas may have salvaged its season with a much-needed win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night, and it could use a strong complement to CeeDee Lamb on the perimeter. Brandin Cooks was recently placed on injured reserve following a knee procedure.”
Higgins had requested a trade during the offseason after he and the Bengals failed to agree on a contract extension. The Bengals responded by using the franchise tag, keeping Higgins for the 2024 season with a $22 million salary. Higgins has had two 1,000-yard seasons and totaled 275 receptions, 3,866 receiving yards, and 26 touchdowns in his four-year career.
