SAN ANTONIO — The Dallas Mavericks fell to the San Antonio Spurs 126-116 on Wednesday night. Despite their effort, the Spurs managed to secure the win. After the game, guard Dante Exum provided insight into the team’s mindset as they navigate a challenging season filled with injuries.
“It’s pretty positive,” Exum said when asked about the team’s morale. “Obviously it’s a tough stretch with multiple injuries, but I think we’re keeping it positive. Obviously everyone is getting a lot of minutes… It’s going out there saying, ‘play free, have fun.’”
Mavericks Battling Through Adversity
With this loss, the Mavericks dropped to a 33-34 record, having lost six of their last seven games. The absence of key players like Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis has undoubtedly contributed to the team’s struggles.
On the bright side, PJ Washington is expected to return soon, a much-needed boost as Dallas pushes for a spot in the NBA Play-In Tournament.
“It’s the same thing… We want to go into every game trying to win,” Exum said regarding the team’s approach. “That’s no different. I think it gives a lot of guys opportunities to play more minutes to show what they can do and kind of hold the fort down until we get some guys back. But until then, we’re gonna continue to battle.”
The Mavericks will face the Houston Rockets on Friday in the final game of their three-game road trip before returning home to play the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday. With the postseason race heating up, the next few weeks will be crucial for Dallas.
