The Denver Nuggets had high expectations for Michael Porter Jr. to play a significant role in the second round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs against the Minnesota Timberwolves, especially after his outstanding shooting performance against the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round.

Porter started strong in the second round, scoring 20 points in Game 1 despite a 106-99 home loss and adding 21 points in Denver’s 117-90 road victory in Game 3. However, his performance declined sharply after that.

Porter believed that he had disappointed his team and issued an apology to his teammates following the Nuggets’ 98-90 defeat in Game 7 against Anthony Edwards and the Timberwolves at home.

“Michael Porter Jr said he apologized to the team after the game and felt like this loss was on him. He said if he would’ve played the way he knows he can play the Nuggets would’ve won this series,” (via Katy Winge).

During Game 7, Porter made only three out of twelve field goal attempts, resulting in a total of seven points. Throughout the final four games of the series against Minnesota, the ex-Missouri Tigers standout averaged a dismal 6.3 points with a shooting percentage of just 28.6%.
