Ipswich Town is actively working behind the scenes to extend contracts for some of their promotion heroes.

After a productive summer transfer window, where they signed 12 new players following their promotion to the Premier League, the club is still seeking their first victory in the top flight, having lost two and drawn two of their first four matches.

Manager Kieran McKenna has expressed optimism about the upcoming fixtures against Southampton and Aston Villa, hoping for that first league win.

Off the pitch, Ipswich has secured new deals for winger Wes Burns and goalkeeper Christian Walton, joining Sam Morsy in committing to the club. McKenna recently shared promising news regarding ongoing discussions about further contract extensions.

“It’s very important we keep a good core of players who have been a really, really important part of the journey over the last couple of years,” he stated. “As we grow and develop now as a football club, those players who have been part of the journey are going to help with integration both on and off the pitch.”

He emphasized the cultural impact these players have had: “Christian, in his role in the goalkeeper department, is very much an example of that. Wes has produced performances that we hoped for and expected in the Premier League… Both have important roles to play.”

McKenna also highlighted the need to balance seasoned players with new signings: “Getting that blend right is how we want to build and develop the squad. Those two boys signing contracts is a pretty good sign of the model that we want to follow. I think there are conversations ongoing with some others in terms of them receiving and committing to new contracts.”

Potential players for new deals include Leif Davis, Luke Woolfenden, Axel Tuanzebe, and Cameron Burgess, all of whom are out of contract at the season’s end, though Ipswich holds a one-year extension option for Davis.
