Fabrizio Romano Unveils Arsenal’s Secret Weapon: Edu’s Transfer Mastery

Arsenal’s director Edu Gaspar has had a productive summer during the transfer window, despite a relatively quiet period regarding incoming players at the Emirates Stadium, according to Fabrizio Romano.

So far, Arsenal has made only a few additions: Mikel Merino and Riccardo Calafiori, along with the permanent signing of David Raya’s loan. However, Romano has commended Edu for his effective management of player departures.

In an exclusive update for CaughtOffside’s Daily Briefing column, Romano expressed admiration for Arsenal’s transfer activities, highlighting their successful offloading of several players. Notably, Aaron Ramsdale is poised to join Southampton, with the transfer almost finalized.

This follows Emile Smith Rowe’s move to Fulham and Eddie Nketiah’s anticipated transfer to Crystal Palace, which are expected to generate substantial revenue for Arsenal.

Romano emphasized that selling players is a challenging task, and Arsenal supporters should appreciate Edu’s efforts in this regard. This approach will be crucial for the club to adhere to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Regulations.

Regarding Ramsdale’s transfer and Arsenal’s overall sales strategy, Romano remarked: “He was on the radar for Wolves and Bournemouth, but neither were willing to invest £25 million in a goalkeeper. Southampton, on the other hand, quickly agreed to the deal.”

“I think it was a good summer for Arsenal especially on sales, Edu did an important job. It’s never easy to sell players.”

Ramsdale is certainly someone AFC needed to get off their books after he lost his place to Raya in Mikel Arteta’s starting XI, and one imagines he can go on to have a good career for a club like Southampton.

£25m also looks a very good fee for Arsenal considering Ramsdale was only a backup player.
